DURING CONNECTICUT EXPORT WEEK, MURPHY HIGHLIGHTS WALLINGFORD MANUFACTURER, SPECIALTY CABLE CORPORATION, AS “MURPHY’S MONDAY MANUFACTURER”

Connecticut Export Week 2017 is April 24th-28th

HARTFORD – In celebration of Connecticut Export Week 2017, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Specialty Cable Corporation (SCC) of Wallingford is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” SCC engineers and manufactures Mil-spec wire and cable products for the military and commercial aerospace industries, as well as for industrial, energy, medical, and heating applications. SCC products are used internationally on a variety of different machines, including submarines, jets, fetal monitors, defibrillators, and X-Ray and radiology equipment. Their cables and wires are also used to help transmit clear audio signals and to maintain temperatures as low as -238°F and as high as 2000°F.

With the help of 57 employees, SCC serves customers around the world – including UTC Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, Northrup Grumman, Raytheon, Bell Helicopter, Bombardier, Gulfstream, and GE Aviation – out of their 65,000 square foot facility. The manufacturer was founded in Wallingford in 1942 and has operated there ever since. At the invitation of the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center, SCC recently joined Pratt & Whitney and several other Connecticut aerospace companies in representing Connecticut at Australia’s Avalon Air Show.

“Customers all over the world know that if a product is made in Connecticut, it’s made to last – that’s why our state has become a household name in international exports. SCC in particular has an impressive track record of exporting their goods to places like Latin America, Western Europe, Africa, Asia, and more. I promise to keep fighting to make it easier for them and all of our state’s manufacturing companies to export their goods and do business abroad,” said Murphy. “Congrats to the whole SCC team on 75 years as a Connecticut manufacturer!”

“We are proud to be a Connecticut manufacturer, along with the many other premier aerospace manufacturers. Specialty Cable Corporation is the only Connecticut company approved to manufacture our types of military specification wire and cable products. Along with military and aerospace wire and cable, SCC also manufactures high performance industrial and medical cables. We owe our success to our Connecticut employees, whose skill and dedication enable us to compete globally and maintain our high performance and adhere to our ISO-9001 and AS9100 quality standards,” said Kim Bowen, CEO/CFO of Specialty Cable Corporation.

Connecticut Export Week provides Connecticut companies the opportunity to meet with experts and receive training on topics such as market research, financing, website, and compliance. Connecticut Export Week is run by state and federal partners, including the Connecticut District Export Council, International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. State Department, U.S. Commercial Service, and the State of Connecticut.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
